Shaolin Staff

8-hour intensive introductory course.

Open to all Nam Yang members who have completed their Sum Chien Grading.

The staff (Gun or Kun in Chinese) is the weapon most characteristic of Shaolin kung fu. In fact staff techniques form the basis of all long weapon use, hence learning the staff is the key to learning the Shaolin weapon system. This course is designed for those with little or no weapons experience and will comprise the following:

•  An understanding of the staff as a weapon.

•  How to look after a staff.

•  Learning the 1 st Nam Yang staff routine (Shaolin Tong Cher Kun) in its entirety.

•  Basics of staff use eg stance and grip.

•  Coaching on performance of the routine.

Advanced staff training and coaching for competition will be available in the future as a follow up to this course.

The course will cost £75.00 (under 18's) or £85.00 (adults) (+ £10.00 if paid on day). This cost will cover: an oak staff; 8 hrs training; course notes including a step by step guide to the routine; a certificate to be presented on completion of the course.

Special Offer: Weapon carrying bag. Normal price £20.00. Bought with this course £17.50. Very strongly recommended if you do not have one already, so as to be able to transport your weapons to and from training responsibly and without attracting unwanted attention.
